Greater Than Ourselves: A Call for Climate Action, Peace, and Thanksgiving

Greater Than Ourselves: A Call for Climate Action, Peace, and Thanksgiving

As we descend back to the surface, we carry with us a renewed sense of awe for our planet and a reinvigorated commitment to its care. From the highest perspective, we’re reminded that while we may occupy a small space on this Earth, our role in its preservation is immeasurable. We are the guardians of its timeless beauty, a duty we must embrace with reverence and dedication.

Realizing Our Collective Potential

Our journey through life often focuses on individual achievements and personal growth. However, the view from above suggests a different narrative—one where our collective potential surpasses the sum of individual efforts. This is a call to action, urging us to transcend our self-imposed limitations and realize that we can be greater than ourselves. It’s about understanding that our every action, no matter how small, contributes to a larger story of survival and prosperity on this planet.

Climate Action: A Shared Responsibility

“The very same interaction, the very same experience can be either mundane or spiritual. The only difference between the two is how I live it. What quality of presence do I bring to it? And that is true about our experiences. It is also very true about our mindset, about our narrative and our action. We must understand that mindsets lead to narratives, lead to action, and above all, that every single action of ours carries our signature.” – The future we choose by Christiana Figueres & Tom Rivett Carnac *2

The Earth’s climate crisis is not a distant problem; it’s a present reality. The responsibility to act is shared by all, transcending borders, cultures, and generations. Climate action is no longer a choice but a necessity. We must adopt sustainable practices, support renewable energy sources, and champion policies that prioritize the health of our planet. Our commitment to climate action will be our legacy, a testament to our respect for the Earth and the life it sustains.

Cultivating Peace and Unity

It says something about our species that we have eradicated smallpox and invented vaccines and antibiotics for yellow fever and the Black Death, but war continues to plague us; that in the past century — this supposed pinnacle of enlightened modernity — war has claimed or maimed more of our children’s lives than any virus or bacterium. It says something about both our immense imagination and our immense blind spots” – About War by Maria Popova *1

In the grand scheme of things, our differences are minute compared to what unites us. Our shared home, the Earth, calls for our united efforts to maintain its balance. Cultivating peace and unity is not just a moral imperative; it is essential for our survival. In a world torn by conflicts and divided by ideologies, the view from above reminds us of the triviality of our disputes. Let’s strive for a world where collaboration overcomes conflict, and understanding replaces intolerance.

Embracing a Spirit of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a reminder and a mindset. As we look upon our planet from a great height, our hearts swell with gratitude for its abundant beauty and resources. Let’s extend this spirit of thanksgiving to our everyday lives, appreciating the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the community we are part of. Gratitude fosters a deeper connection with our environment, prompting us to protect and cherish it.

The Path Forward

Our descent back to Earth is symbolic of our return to reality, but it does not signify the end of our journey. It’s the beginning of a renewed commitment to our planet and each other. Each of us has the power to make a difference. Let’s embrace our role as guardians of this beautiful planet with a sense of awe, responsibility, and hope. Our collective actions today will shape the future for generations to come.
