Beyond the Old Playbook — Navigating Uncertainty When Familiar Answers No Longer Work
Originally published on Digoshen in October 2026, bringing together the Beyond the Old Playbook podcast and reflection series.
What happens when the experience, assumptions and strategies that once guided us are no longer enough?
Beyond the Old Playbook brings together nine podcast conversations exploring how leaders, boards and individuals can navigate uncertainty, rethink established perspectives and discover new possibilities. From European competitiveness, AI and sustainability to personal transitions, judgement and the courage to act, the series examines what leadership requires when familiar answers no longer work.
Reflections
Across the conversations, a common insight emerges: navigating uncertainty is not about finding a new universal playbook, but about developing the capabilities to respond thoughtfully when circumstances change.
This means questioning assumptions, embracing different perspectives, balancing risk with opportunity and recognising that meaningful progress often begins before we have complete clarity.
Perhaps the most important shift is from seeking certainty to developing the judgement, curiosity and courage to move forward without it.
The Message
When the old playbook no longer works, the answer is not necessarily to write another one, but to strengthen our ability to see, learn, decide and adapt.
Leadership in uncertain times requires both the courage to question what we know and the willingness to imagine what might come next.
Which assumptions are you ready to question, and what might become possible if you moved beyond the old playbook?
